Like many craftspeople, Colin has had several careers. He originally trained as a photographer and studied industrial lighting. By the mid 1970′s, having travelled extensively taking pictures, Colin was working for a publishing company taking photos of flowers, trees and fruit, but he was becoming increasingly disenchanted with the commercial world of photography.
Always fascinated by the sea, Colin teamed up with three like-minded people, and they set about building a 5Oft ocean-going sailboat. When the vessel was completed eight years later, Colin embarked on a series of voyages that included expeditions to the Hebrides and the Azores tagging seals and sperm whales. Some of the images from the months spent at sea have obviously had a profound influence on Colin’s work today.
